Hear our guests’ stories

Our guests and former guests talk to us

We know that everyone who comes to us is their own person, with their own story and their own needs. We work closely with each guest to make sure they have the time and space they need to do things their way.

Once they feel like they’re on an even keel and life is turning around, we support them to keep on building their independence. We’re here for the little things, the bigger stuff, and a friendly chat – as long as our guests need us.

Enzo*, 79, is a retired dentist

Enzo* lived on his retirement savings until he ran out of money. He was living on the street and got hyperthermia. We helped him rest, recover and move on.

“People don't realise how lucky they are to get a place there when you have nowhere else to go.”

Aydin*, 33, now works as a customs clerk

Aydin* was living in his car after his relationship broke down and he lost his job as a taxi driver. We helped him into a new career and with his cooking.

“I do cook for myself here now. It's a must because you have to prepare yourself for the next bit.”

Riccardo, 58, is a father

Riccardo has faced many challenges in life, but is fully reflective about his choices that led to him being homeless. We helped him find and set up his new home.

“When you get to George House, you've got security in a big way. If you had a problem, they’d down tools and listen.”

Donald, 74, is a former courier

Donald was self-employed for 33 years before ran out of work for the first time and lived in his van. We helped him into supported accommodation.

“When I left George House, I stayed in touch with the team. We like a good catch up and a natter.”
